Useful parameter for Model/Dataset/Space search

Searching for new models is very difficult if you aren’t always on twitter or watching youtube videos in the AI space. Because the only 2 real search parameters (Trending and Recent) have distinct disadvantages. I recommend putting a “Release date” search or calendar in the search filters area.

Trending for example is great for new models that are popular and do well in testing and benchmarks, but the problem with trending is if you wait too long before you look at the current trending models then alot is lost in the back catalogue that you may be interested in.

Recent would ideally work to show the most recently released models, however because this is an open platform for anyone to be able to release models, they recent filter is always filled with a ton of useless and/or testing models that have no practical reason for anyone other than the creator to see, and often times they are filled with nonsensical repos with nothing in the readme to help understand why its there.

For this reason I propose we add a “Search by date” that will work with the “Sort by” filter to show models/datasets/spaces that were only released within a certain time period and filter by parameters like “Trending” “Most Downloads” “Most/Least Parameters” Ect.

I think this request is pretty self explanatory but please ask me any questions if you have any or something isnt clear.

Today in my master’s degree class my instructor was complaining how hard it was to search hugging face and find genuinely new or good models. The usefulness of search could be made far easier - and Rombo’s suggestions sound like a good starting place.

Makes sense, though it’d have to be careful to handle updating files.

e.g. model uploaded 2 years ago, readme changed 1 year ago, model files swapped 1 month ago

In my opinion if you are sorting by date, it should either prioritize upload date (So when the repo was created) or have a dropdown for last updated vs created. I dont think a date selection filter would work very well if it included models that were created a year ago, or months ago, and only updated in the past week, if for example you are filtering by only the past week.
